![]() Dear pregnant women, You might have heard that environment, warmth, music, dimmed lights, movement etc. are all helpful in dealing with the sensations of labor pain. But did you know that your mind actually has the ability to relate to 'pain' in a different way as well? And did you know that with training (our awareness) we can actually expand our capacity to be with the intense sensations/pain of labor ? When we learn to relate differently (mindfully) with the intense sensations of labor, we tend to spend more time in a mental state of 'calm and ease' instead of 'fight or flight'. This calm and ease state of mind supports the optimal physiology of labor, even while facing strong physical discomfort. In this 2 sessions workshop we will explore the basics of mindfulness, the different dimensions of pain and intense sensations of labor, and start to strengthen our mindful awareness. We will work hands on with experiencing pain in different ways, so that you will have many different tools to choose from when the time of labor comes. Doula care with Doula Liz For the last few years, I felt a growing interest to work with women who are going through the transformational phase of becoming mothers. To offer them emotional, physical, non judgemental, mindful support during the phases of pregnancy, birth and after birth. To hold space for this journey to unfold in it's own unique way within every women and family, surrounded by trust, care and love. This year, 2020, for 39 weeks and 140 contact hours I emerged myself into a Doula training with Materlua on the Portugese continent. This training was so much more than expected. It has given me precious, deep and countless opportunities to go deep within myself, and at the same time dive into the world of pregnancy, birth and beyond. Because the training was spread out over a longer period, it really got it´s time to grow on me and within, coming to the point now where I feel trust to companion and welcome women and families to connect with the doula care that I offer. It´s the start of a new chapter and at the same time a continuation of my book of life. My trainer Carla Silveira shared with me the heartfelt words when offering my certification of completion: `I believe you always have been a Doula, you were only here to be remembered of that´. A foundation from which we can expand our awareness to our actions and interactions with ourselves, other people and the world. We choose our behavior based on response and conscious choice instead of habits and automatic patterns. When we are aware, we can take care of our feelings of anger, frustration, anxiety, stress, fear and insecurity. When we are aware we notice all the little things around us that make life beautiful and that lift our mood. When we are aware we feel more calm, joyful and alive. --- |
